A roomy Balmacaan coat designed with layering in mind. The fit is relaxed and easy, with raglan sleeves for comfort and movement, making it practical over tailoring, knitwear or heavier winter layers.

Rather than using a traditional concealed fly front, this version has a visible button front, giving it a slightly more straightforward and honest feel. Cut in a textured black and ecru wool dogtooth, it is finished with a throat tab so the collar can be worn up against the weather, with contrast cord under the collar and on the reverse of the throat tab.

DESIGNER’S NOTES

I wanted this coat to feel generous and easy rather than formal or rigid. The raglan sleeve gives it that natural movement, while the roomy shape means it can sit comfortably over tailoring or heavier knitwear without feeling tight or overworked.

I also liked the idea of moving away from the traditional fly front and letting the buttons show. It keeps the coat a little more straightforward and utilitarian. The contrast cord details under the collar and inside the coat add a bit of character, but in a quiet way that still feels very Supermoon.
